Delta Township Juneteenth Unity Fest
Description
This cultural event honors Juneteenth by celebrating freedom, heritage, enlightenment, and the rich history and contributions of African Americans. Through education, reflection, music, art, and shared fellowship, we bring people together in a spirit of unity, respect, and hope for the future.
Featured Performers
* Root Doctor - an acclaimed Lansing, Michigan-based blues and soul band, founded in 1989 by vocalist Freddie Cunningham and bassist James Williams. Known for a powerful, horn-driven sound, they blend traditional blues with classic soul and original material.
* Twyla Birdsong - a vocalist known for her soulful blending of blues, gospel, jazz, and Motown. She is celebrated for bringing raw emotion to both Motown classics and gospel ballads.
* Maxine Hankins Cain PHD - an educator, author, and storyteller who is a nationally acclaimed keynote speaker whose expertise focuses on empowering others to improve the world around them, through diversity and inclusion.
* Julian VanDyke - a celebrated painter, author, and actor whose vibrant murals and community-focused art are iconic. He is also an expressive visual storyteller and children’s book author advocating for arts education and literacy.
Juneteenth History Walk
Take a reflective stroll that highlights a powerful series of displays which trace the journey from the Emancipation Proclamation to Juneteenth. The displays will feature images, quotes, and deeper insights into the delays, resilience, and enduring pursuit of freedom and justice.

The nine historically African American Greek Letter sororities and fraternities (“The Divine Nine”) whose collaborative membership forms the National Pan-Hellenic Council of Lansing, will be represented by:

* Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Chi Epsilon Omega Chapter
* Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Theta Rho Zeta Chapter
Event Shuttle From the Lansing Mall to Sharp Park
Delta Township, in partnership with Dean Transportation and the Lansing Mall, are offering a free connecting shuttle from the north mall parking lot to Sharp Park!
Shuttle Details:
* Near CATA’s Route 3 at the Lansing Mall
* First Shuttle Pickup: 5:45 p.m.
* Last Shuttle Departs Park: 9:15 p.m.
* Look for the shuttle sign in the North
